My opinion is that the academic learning can be and should be contained within the school day hours. Homework is not evidence based and considering the turmoil and stress that it puts on my relationships with family members it should be proven to be a necessary hell!!
This in combination with school hours being too early for the adolescent mind and body. The research proves that adolescents internal clock are more awake later in the morning.
If public school truly wanted to do what was best or more natural for children then homework would not need to be given because the school environment would be so engaging and learning would be something they looked forward to. The hours of school would be based on what the students voted for not what the staff wanted them to be.
